Day 1
This morning we depart on our 12-day journey to see the Wild West highlights of Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. With stops for rest and lunch, we will arrive in Columbus, OH, the location of our lodging for this evening. Dinner will be included at the hotel tonight.
DDay 2
After breakfast, we will continue our westward journey. A photo opportunity and lunch on your own will be in Casey, IL. This charming small-town hub is known for its collection of "Big Things in a Small Town" including oversized landmarks like the World's Largest Rocking Chair and Wind Chime. The area features quaint shops, local eateries and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a fun place to stop. Our lodging for this evening will be in St. Louis, MO. A Skyline Dinner Cruise offers a scenic dining experience along the Mississippi River, with stunning views of the Gateway Arch and the illuminated downtown skyline.
B, DDay 3
Today we travel through Missouri and into Kansas. Lunch will be included at Jack Stacks BBQ in Kansas City, MO. This afternoon we will have a self-guided visit at the Arabia Steamboat Museum, showcasing the preserved artifacts from the Steamboat Arabia, which sank in the Missouri River in 1856. Rediscovered in 1988, the museum features a vast collection of frontier-era cargo, including tools, clothing and dishware, offering a glimpse into 19th-century life. Our lodging for this evening is located in Manhattan, KS. This evening you are free to dine on your own in Aggieville, a lively entertainment district near Kansas State University, known for its restaurants, shops and nightlife.
B, LDay 4
This morning, we will enjoy a self-guided visit at the Oz Museum, featuring one of the largest collections of Oz-themed memorabilia. The museum showcases original movie props, rare collectibles and exhibits highlighting the book series and film. Lunch will be included at the Carriage Crossing Restaurant in Yoder, KS, a beloved Amish-style eatery known for its homemade comfort food and pies. This afternoon we will have a guided tour of Strataca: Kansas Underground Salt Museum. The salt mine tour includes the mining galleries and a 30-minute tram ride. Our lodging this evening is located in Hutchinson, KS. Dinner will be included at the Salt City Brewing Company.
B, L, DDay 5
Dalton Gang Hideout will be our first stop today. Here you will walk through the secret tunnel connecting the house to the barn; explore "Old Town", a wild west town façade; and tour Heritage House, an old home furnished as it was in the 1890's. Lunch will be on your own in Dodge City, KS, a historic town known for its Old West heritage and association with famous figures like Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp. This afternoon we will hop on the Dodge City Trolley for a trip back to the 1870's. We will visit the original locations of Longbranch Saloon, Gospel Hill, Front Street and so much more. We will tour Fort Dodge and learn a few colorful stories along the way. Our lodging will be in Dodge City. This evening, we will visit Boot Hill Museum, offering an experience into the Wild West era, showcasing exhibits on famous lawmen, outlaws and frontier life. After a hearty, Old West-style meal we will enjoy a lively Wild West-themed performance featuring music, comedy and can-can dancers in an old-fashioned saloon setting.
B, DDay 6
This morning you are free to enjoy a late start at the hotel or Boot Hill Casino, a Western-themed gaming destination. Lunch will be on your own in Woodward, OK. Our lodging will be located in Oklahoma City, OK for the next 2 evenings. Tonight, after dinner, we will enjoy an evening stroll on the Skydance Bridge, a pedestrian bridge over I-40 with a 197-foot-tall sculpture.
B, DDay 7
Breakfast will be included at Cattleman's Steakhouse, located in the heart of Oklahoma National Stockyards. We will then have a guided tour of Stockyard City, a historic district celebrating cowboy culture, Western heritage and the cattle industry. While here, you will experience authentic cowboy traditions, live music and unique shopping in this iconic Old West destination. This afternoon we will visit the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. This self-guided visit showcases the history, art and culture of the American West. It features Western and Native American artifacts, cowboy memorabilia and an extensive art collection. Lunch will be on your own at the museum grill. Express Clydesdales Barn is next on our agenda. Housed in a beautiful, restored barn, these majestic horses participate in parades, special events and charity appearances nationwide. You can tour the barn, meet the Clydesdales up close and learn about their history and training. Dinner will be included at McClintock Saloon & Chop House, a Western-themed steakhouse offering a classic saloon atmosphere. A relaxing boat tour along the Oklahoma River, providing scenic views of the city's skyline, parks and wildlife, will conclude our day.
B, DDay 8
POPs 66 Soda Ranch is first on our itinerary today. This quirky roadside attraction along Route 66, is known for its giant, neon soda bottle and vast selection of over 700 different sodas. Later this morning, we will have a self-guided visit to the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum, showcasing a collection of classic and vintage cars, celebrating the history of automobiles along the iconic highway. Lunch will be on your own, on the way to Pawhuska, OK. This afternoon we will visit the Pioneer Woman Mercantile and Bakery, a charming store and café owned by Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman. Dinner will be included at the Pioneer Woman Event Center. This evening's lodging is located in Joplin, MO.
B, DDay 9
A stop for rest will be made enroute to Sikeston, MO, the location of today's lunch. Lambert's Café, "Home of the Throwed Rolls" is known for its Southern comfort food and freshly baked rolls. This afternoon, you will have a choice between the National Quilt Museum or River Discovery Center. The Quilt Museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the art of quilting. The River Discovery Center is an interactive museum that explores the history, culture and ecology of the Ohio and Tennessee River systems. It features exhibits on river transportation, wildlife and the roles rivers have played in the development of the region. Dinner will be on your own enroute to our lodging in Bowling Green, KY.
B, LDay 10
Lost River Cave is a fascinating underground cave system known for its stunning natural beauty. Here we will explore the cave on a boat tour that navigates the river running through it. The cave features impressive rock formations and a rich history, once serving a hideout during the Civil War. Lunch, a self-guided visit and live entertainment will be included at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame Museum in Owensboro, KY. We will then travel on to Louisville, KY, the location of our lodging for this evening. Dinner will be on your own in Downtown Louisville.
B, LDay 11
This morning, we will enjoy the backstretch breakfast at the Kentucky Derby Museum. Experience the backside of the racetrack during a rail-side breakfast in the Track Kitchen all while watching the horses during their morning workouts. We will then tour the Kentucky Derby Museum. Included is "The Greatest Race", a 360-degree multi-media experience, two floors of interactive exhibits, access to the Resident horses at the Stable and free time for shopping at the Derby Museum store. Lunch will be on your own enroute to Cross Lanes, WV, the location of our lodging for this evening. Dinner will be included tonight.
B, DDay 12
This morning after breakfast we will check-out and head for home. Arrival home is scheduled for early evening.
