Optional Activity

Optional activities need to be booked at the time of reservation to ensure availability. Optional activities cannot be added after the final payment due date or during the trip because they are arranged and pre-paid as a group order. The schedule of optional activities is subject to availability. We reserve the right to make revisions based on show schedules, etc.

Day 1

Our morning departure will bring us to West Virginia by mid-afternoon. After we check-in to our lodging for the next two nights at Oglebay's Wilson Lodge, we'll enjoy an included holiday dinner show. Then we'll have a guided driving tour of the Festival of Lights.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will visit Oglebay's Mansion Museum which will be decorated for the holidays by local designers. See the mansion at your own pace during this self-guided tour. Explore the 13 rooms focusing on Wheeling's earliest settlement through the opulent Edwardian era, plus the Wymer General Store and Sinclair Pharmacy collections. Next, we'll enjoy a self-guided tour of the Carriage House Glass Museum. This museum showcases Wheeling glass from 1829 to 1939. The centerpiece of the museum is the Sweeney Punch Bowl, the largest piece of cut lead crystal ever made. We'll stop at The Hilltop & Bissonnette Gardens for a self-guided visit of the shops and gardens enroute to Wheeling Centre Market for lunch on our own. We'll then return to the Oglebay area to spend the rest of the afternoon at our leisure. If you'd like to experience Winter Fantasy at Good Zoo during this free time, admission can be purchased in advance for $15 per person. Tonight, we will enjoy a buffet dinner at the lodge.

Day 3

Following breakfast, we will travel to Nemacolin Castle (also known as Bowman's Castle) for a guided tour. The castle was built in the 1780's by Jacob Bowman and is the third oldest castle in the United States. Bowman's son and grandson built onto it in later years. This series of expansions created a house that showcases the changing architectural and design styles of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Lunch will be included in Somerset, PA enroute home.

Our intention is to run each tour as originally planned and published. However, if deemed necessary to do so, Perkiomen Tours reserves the right to make changes to tour components, schedules or itineraries without prior notification.

Tips for Perkiomen motorcoach drivers and tour escorts are not included in the price of this tour. We feel that these gratuities should be extended on an individual basis and dictated by the level of service provided.

Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but cannot be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with your driver at the time of boarding. Historically, daily seat rotation was practiced on most multi-day tours. We have suspended this practice for a period of time. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort if reinstated.
