Founded on July 16, 1790, Washington, DC is unique among American cities because it was established by the Constitution of the United States to serve as the nation's capital. After more than 230 years, Washington is brimming with a unique history of its own. Come with Perkiomen Tours for this opportunity to explore the historical heritage of our nation.

The story of American democracy comes to life in America’s capital city.  We will view the Monuments and Memorials that commemorate the heroes who have shaped America’s past.  A Tour of Arlington National Cemetery is an enduring tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to defending the ideals of our nation.  Visit the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and the White House Visitor Center.  Tour the beloved home of George Washington, Mount Vernon, plus much more.

Day 1

This morning, en route to Washington, DC, we will stop in Gettysburg, known for Gettysburg National Battlefield, site of a turning point in the Civil War. While here, we will enjoy free time at the visitor center including the Cyclorama painting depicting Pickett's Charge; Film, A New Birth of Freedom; and Museum of the American Civil War. After free time for lunch on your own, we will be met by our guide for a tour of the Battlefield. Our arrival in Washington, DC will be later this afternoon. After checking-in to our downtown accommodations we will enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant.


Day 2

Today, after breakfast at the hotel, we will be introduced to the highlights, Memorials and Monuments of our Nation's Capital, by a local guide. Lunch will be on your own followed by a visit to the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and a tour of the Capitol (if available). Enjoy the remainder of the afternoon and evening on your own at the National Mall to explore the Smithsonian's at your leisure. An optional dinner cruise aboard the Odyssey will be available (at an additional charge of $155 per person).


Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel will once again get us started this morning. We will then tour the White House Visitor Center, offering you a window into the president's iconic home. The exhibit areas feature approximately 100 historical artifacts, interpretive panels, looping videos of photos and archival footage, and interactive elements for visitors of all ages. You can explore an interactive touchscreen tour of the White House, view over 90 artifacts from the White House collection, and view the 14 minute film, "White House: Reflections From Within." Then shop in the White House Historical Association retail store to find the perfect souvenir. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is next on our itinerary. The museum presents the history of the 6 million Jews and millions of others, who suffered and died at the hands of the Nazis during their rule of Germany. It serves as a memorial to these victims and teaches the implications of the Holocaust for contemporary life. Lunch will be on your own and the remainder of the day will be at your leisure to explore the Smithsonian's or other museums such as the Newseum, the International Spy Museum, National Postal Museum, Museum of the Bible, etc. Dinner will be included at a local restaurant. An optional performance at Ford's Theatre will be available this evening (at an additional charge to be announced).

Day 4

This morning, after breakfast, we will tour Arlington National Cemetery, an enduring tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to defending the ideals of our nation. A visit here will leave an indelible impression on your spirit. We will then travel a short distance to tour Mount Vernon, George Washington's residence from 1759 until his death in 1799. The mansion has been restored to appear as it was during the last year of Washington's life and contains much of the original furniture. Lunch will be included in Alexandria, followed by some free time to explore this historic city. Dinner will be on your own this evening. An optional Night Lights Tour will be available this evening.

Day 5

After breakfast we will check-out of our downtown accommodations. Transportation will be available to visit the National Zoological Park, one of Washington's most popular attractions and home to approximately 1,800 animals representing 300 species. Another option this morning will be a tour of Washington National Cathedral, one of the world's largest cathedrals, and the chief mission church of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Completed in 1990 after 83 years of construction, this cathedral is a spectacular example of Gothic architecture. Lunch will be on your own today. Arrival home is scheduled for early evening.

Tips for Perkiomen motorcoach drivers and tour escorts are not included in the price of this tour. We feel that these gratuities should be extended on an individual basis and dictated by the level of service provided.

Motorcoach seating is assigned at the time of reservation but can not be guaranteed. Although we do our best to keep each traveler in the seat assigned at the time of reservation, there are times that it is necessary to move seat locations. Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with your driver at the time of boarding. Daily seat rotation is practiced on most multi-day tours. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort.

To fully participate in this tour may require extended amounts of walking. There may be steps, inclines, uneven surfaces or extended periods of standing. Participants with physical limitation should take this into consideration.
