Day 1

Pennsylvania summer-time panorama will provide the sights as we travel westward to our lodging for the evening in Maumee, Ohio.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel we travel into Michigan with arrival in Flint by mid-morning. We will visit the Sloan Museum at Courtland Center, home of over 30 vehicles representing a cross section of Sloan Museum's automotive collection, including concept cars, trucks and classic cars dating from the early 1900s to the late 1980s. Each vehicle helps tell a story about how the automotive industry shaped life in Flint and how Flint put the world on wheels. We continue north to Hillman and the Thunder Bay Resort, our home-away-from-home for the next three evenings. After checking-in to our rooms, we will enjoy a dinner buffet followed by a bonfire and s'mores.

Day 3

This morning, after breakfast, we will depart with a local guide to tour the Oscoda Area. Located in the Huron-Manistee National Forests, the Lumberman's Monument Visitor Center interprets the area's colorful lumbering past. The 14-foot Lumberman's Monument stands on a high bank with the Au Sable River providing a scenic backdrop. Learn about the industry that helped develop northern Michigan and the men who cut the timber that helped build a nation. Climb through a log jam, use a peavey, cut a wooden cookie with a cross-cut saw, and learn about the life of a lumberjack through video and displays. After our box lunch at Oscoda Beach Park, we will visit the Wurtsmith Air Museum. The Museum contains artifacts and memorabilia relating to the military, along with static displays of several aircraft, including a UH-1H (Huey) Helicopter, a T-33 Jet Trainer and several civilian General Aviation aircraft. In addition, many displays commemorate the wars and conflicts of the past hundred years in the museum. Women in aviation history and Wurtsmith AFB history are also displayed. On the way back to the resort we will visit the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse. This evening we will enjoy dinner and entertainment at the resort.

Day 4

Breakfast at the resort will start our day before we depart for today's touring to the Alpena Area. First on our list is the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, a visitor center for the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, featuring exciting exhibits. Exploring the Shipwreck Century is located in the center's main hall and includes a full-size replica wooden Great Lakes schooner and shipwreck where visitors can walk the decks, feel a Great Lakes storm, and touch the massive timbers of the boat resting on the lake bottom...without getting wet! Enjoy the exhibits, theater, conservation lab and shipwreck artifact gallery. After lunch on your own, we will enjoy a visit to Stoney Acres Winery for a caramel corn and wine tasting. We will then visit the Old & New Presque Isle Lighthouses. The Old Lighthouse was built to mark the entrance to Presque Isle Bay and its Harbor. During the quarter-century after the War of 1812, increasing ship traffic to and past Presque Isle led Congress in 1838 to appropriate funds for a lighthouse. It was built two years later and today is one of the oldest surviving lights on the Great Lakes. Construction of the tower and keeper's house was completed in time for the New Light to go into service for the 1871 shipping season. More than 140 years later the New Lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation. This evening we will enjoy a gourmet dinner back at the resort followed by an Elk Viewing Carriage Ride pulled by beautiful draft and Percheron horses. Experience these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. Bull elk, cow elk and even calves, so bring your camera!

Day 5

This morning, after breakfast, we must check-out and depart. Traveling south through Michigan, we will arrive in Chelsea by early afternoon for a tour of the "Jiffy" Mix Plant. This one-hour tour consists of an educational and informative video presentation, a product sample, refreshments and a walk through their packaging plant. Our lodging this evening is located in West Lake, Ohio. Dinner will be at your leisure this evening.
