Day 2

This morning after breakfast we will depart with a local guide for a day of touring. First, we will visit Estey Organ Museum. Dedicated to the history and heritage of the Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, VT, makers of reed organs, pump organs, melodeons, and pipe organs. The Estey Organ Company employed a large workforce, many of whom were highly specialized craftsmen. For many years Estey was the largest employer in the State of Vermont. Estey employed master woodcarvers, designers, engineers, and inventors, many of whom who came from Europe to work for Estey. A housing "village" was built near the factory to house its employees. The group will be split in two; with half in the museum for the tour to learn about this very special museum, watch a short informational video, and invited to play any organ in the museum! The other half will have a guided tour in the "village", where the factory workers' housing was back in its hay day. Then the two groups will switch. We will then learn how sugar makers have been making maple syrup for generations at the Maple Syrup Sugar House. Lunch will be included in the Putney area. This afternoon will be spent at Friesians of Majesty, home to award winning Othello & Mathijs, two outstanding 1st premium approved Friesian breeding stallions. This is the largest full-service Friesian breeding & training facility in the US, offering unique equine experiences for horse enthusiasts. They have horses for sale, breeding, camps, training, and riding lessons. Included in our visit is a tour of the facility and a performance. You will see these majestic horses and witness their wonderful temperaments. Meet the stallions, interact with the babies in the mare & foal barn, watch the show where you will see driving and riding demonstrations. It is truly a remarkable experience for all! Later we will return to the Inn for another dinner and evening of entertainment.

Day 3

Our guide will meet us this morning for a second day of touring. Today on our agenda is a visit to Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln's family estate. We will have a self-guided tour of the 24-room Georgian Manor and formal gardens. Learn how the Lincolns vacationed in Vermont and some of their family misfortunes. Visit the fully restored Pullman Car and Agricultural Center where they make their goat cheese. Included will be a picnic box lunch. This afternoon, immerse yourself in the wonderful world of chocolate at the Chocolatorium! A talk and video will introduce you to the history and culture of chocolate, where it comes from and how it is made, with a live demonstration included. Shop in the chocolate shop and perhaps next door at the Village Peddler if you wish. We will then travel a short distance to the Bennington Museum and Grandma Moses Schoolhouse. After a meet and greet upon arrival, you will learn about the museum and what you'll find inside. The Bennington Museum is comprised of thirteen gallery spaces. It is the largest repository for art, history and innovation in southern Vermont and houses a diverse collection reflecting the history of early Vermont and historically associated areas of New York and Massachusetts through present day. Among the objects on permanent view is a 1924 Martin Wasp touring car, one of 20 made in Vermont by Karl Martin, Bennington pottery featuring Norton pottery, Fenton pottery and Redware, and one of the oldest "stars and stripes" in existence - the Bennington Flag. Bennington Museum holds the largest public collection in the world of paintings by GRANDMA MOSES - the great 20th-century folk artist who painted scenes of rural life embodying a sense of an idyllic bygone America. Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses (1860-1961) started painting in her seventies and within years was one of America's most famous artists. We return to the Inn to swim or sit by the pool, enjoying the mountain air. Dinner and entertainment will complete our day.
