Day 1
We begin our journey with a stop in Fremont, OH, the location of our first night's lodging. Stops for rest and lunch will be made enroute. Dinner will be at our leisure.
Day 2
This morning after breakfast, we will continue our journey to the Windy City! There will be time to explore and shop Chicago's 3,300-foot Navy Pier. Lunch will be on our own during this time. Afterwards visit 360 Chicago Observation Deck, located in the John Hancock Building. Begin on the ground floor with a museum-style exhibition before taking the 20-mph elevator to the 94th for 360-degree views of the skyline. On a clear day, you may even be able to see four neighboring states! Dinner this evening will be included at a local restaurant, and our lodging will be in Joliet, IL.
B, DDay 3
After breakfast we will begin our day at the Route 66 Hall of Fame, featuring thousands and artifacts and memorabilia related to Route 66. The back wall of the museum is home to the Route 66 mural painting, created in 2007 it is the largest painted Route 66 Shield in the world and an extremely popular photo op! Our next stop will be two more interesting photo ops, the 19-ft tall Paul Bunyon statue, with not an ax, but a hot dog in his clutches. A little way down the road is the World's Largest Covered Wagon. Who is riding that wagon? A very large and very studious Abraham Lincoln. Dinner will be included at a local restaurant before heading to the Illinois State Fairgrounds for a self-guided tour of the Route 66 Experience. 92 communities and their businesses beginning in Chicago and ending at the Chain on Rocks Bridge in Madison, Illinois, are highlighted. Vintage billboards, a drive-in movie theater, Legens Neon Sign Park and a tribute to the muffler men along Illinois Route 66 are all part of the education exhibit. This evening's lodging will be in Springfield, IL.
Day 4
Following breakfast will be a self-guided tour of the Lincoln-Library & Museum, the world's largest collection of documentary materials related to life and legacy of our 16th President. 21st century technology will transport you back to the 19th century world of Abraham Lincoln in this world-class, one-of-a-kind facility. Our next stop will be the Ace Sign Co. Museum, home to over 85 historic signs from Springfield and Route 66. After our tour, there will be time to shop at the Route 66 Sign Museum Store. We will then head to Collinsville, IL for a view of the world's largest Catsup bottle before arriving in St. Louis, MO and our lodging for the evening. Dinner will be on our own, and the evening is ours to explore St. Louis.
BDay 5
After breakfast we will continue our journey westward with a stop in Cuba, Missouri. Known as the "Route 66 Mural City", there are 12 large outdoor murals to view, depicting scenes from local and national history. Here we will also see the World's Largest Rocking Chair, and the Wagon Wheel Motel, the oldest and continuously operated motel on Route 66. Lunch will be on our own before heading to Springfield, MO. Here we will visit the Route 66 Car Museum, filled with classic, one-of-a-kind, and famous vehicles that span history. Our lodging this evening will be in Joplin, MO and Dinner will be included at a local restaurant.
B, DDay 6
This morning, we will have breakfast at the hotel before heading northeast to our next destination. With stops for rest and lunch on the way, our lodgings this evening will be in Brazil, IN. Dinner will be on our own.
BDay 7
Following breakfast we will visit the Garfield Park Conservatory of Indianapolis, home to a 10,000 square foot tropical rainforest conservatory, and a 3-acre Sunken Garden. There will then be time for lunch on own before we arrive to our next stop, the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The oldest and largest aviation museum in the world - located at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. This evening, we will enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant, before our last night of lodging in Springfield, OH.
B, DDay 8
After breakfast, we'll check out and depart for home. With stops for rest & lunch enroute, our arrival home is scheduled for early this evening.
