Today we travel west to north central Ohio to the historic Hotel Millersburg, the location of our lodging for the next three evenings. Hotel Millersburg lies in the heart of one of Ohio's earliest frontiers, Holmes County, now home to the largest Amish community in the world. The hotel was first built in 1824 as a stagecoach stop and tavern, in the same year that Millersburg was named the county seat. There's a lot of history here, so be sure to view the historic pictures of Hotel Millersburg and Millersburg Village located on the first floor entrance hallway and throughout the Tavern, and feel free to walk the halls of the hotel viewing over 750 antique pictures & calendars. Hopefully you won't run into a ghost! This evening's dinner and an unusual and mysterious program will be enjoyed at the hotel.D
This morning, after breakfast, we depart with our local step-on guide for a day of touring. Our first stop is Ramseyer Farms, where we will enjoy a wagon ride around the farm and build scarecrows. We will then travel back in time and dine where the cows were kept, farm hands worked and friends gathered after a hard day's work, as we dine at The Barn Restaurant for lunch on our own. This afternoon we will visit Troyer Homemade Candies where we have a chance to dip our own Buckeyes. Later we will make our own cupcake candle at Light for My Path Candles. After free time to freshen up back at the hotel, we will enjoy dinner and a visit to Millersburg Victorian Mansion & Glass Museum. This historic Victorian house in Millersburg was built around the turn of the 20th century and has been featured on HGTV's Victorian America. The tour gives us a haunting memory as we learn about the resident ghost and the encounters it has had with visitors and workers! We will participate in a mini paranormal investigation lead by the in-house expert paranormal investigators!
Breakfast will be included at the hotel before we depart with our guide for a second day of touring. At Hershberger Farm Market & Bakery, we will get to sample fry pie, offering 16 varieties of this tasty homemade regional snack. We will then travel to Heini's Cheese Chalet where you may see Amish workers making cheese, enjoy free samples of over 80 varieties and shop for Amish made goodies! Lunch and Trick or Treating at various merchants will be on your own in the village of Berlin. Costumes are optional! This afternoon we will visit Walnut Valley Brooms for a broom making demo. We will then return to the hotel for a short break. This evening's dinner will be included at Berlin Encore Hall followed by the show Goblin up the Music by Amish Country Theater Players featuring special Halloween skits and musical numbers! You'll be sure to get into the spirit of Halloween with this special show featuring Thriller, Devil Went Down to Georgia and comedy galore with this fun parody show.B, D
Today, after breakfast, we must check-out and depart for home. A visit to Famous Endings Museum, one of the most unique collections in the world, will allow us to meet the owner of the museum and learn more about his interesting hobby which has become one of the most fascinating tours you will ever experience. With stops for lunch and rest en route, arrival home is scheduled for later this evening.B
