There is so much to see and do in North Carolina and the experiences of the Outer Banks go far beyond the beautiful beaches. Come with us to discover the history and natural beauty of the OBX.
History drips from the Outer Banks. Here, aviators Orville & Wilbur Wright, took their famous first flight, Blackbeard fought his last battle, and the mysterious Lost Colony disappeared. However, this chain of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina isn't just for history buffs. Each island has its own charm: old lighthouses, rugged dunes, and secluded beaches couple to form a unique seaside destination.

Day 1
Today we depart for North Carolina's Historic Shores and the Outer Banks Region which consists of a string of narrow islands and peninsulas that lie between the ocean and the sounds along 125 miles of North Carolina's coast. Through years of storms and shipwrecks, the islands have developed a distinctive culture. The area is rich in history - the first English colony was established on Roanoke Island in 1585 and at Kill Devil Hills, in 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright successfully launched the first flight of a power-driven airplane. After we check-in to our lodging for the next two evenings at Nags Head Beach, North Carolina, we will enjoy an included dinner.

Marvel at the largest group of sharks in the state, interact with scuba divers, see an alligator, and wonder at the playful river otters! After free time for lunch and browsing in Manteo, we will visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial. At the visitor center you can view the exhibits and artifacts on the Wright Brothers' background and the development of their flying machines. Our last stop this afternoon is Jockey's Ridge State Park. Jockey's Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. Located in Nags Head, it is one of the most significant landmarks on the Outer Banks, North Carolina! This evening is free to enjoy at your leisure.
*Please Note: All guests must wear close-toed shoes to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island.
Day 3
Our journey south along the Outer Banks will take us by miles of sea and shifting dunes. Crossing the impressive Herbert C. Bonner Bridge at Oregon Inlet we may see the remains of old ships protruding from the sand in this "Graveyard of the Atlantic". A short visit will also be made to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Visitor Center near Buxton. Upon our arrival in the picturesque village of Ocracoke, a favorite hangout of the pirate William Teach (alias Blackbeard), we will board a ferry for the 2 1/4 hour ride across Pamlico Sound to Cedar Island, and then on to our lodging for the next two evenings in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina.
