Day 1

As we make our way towards West Virginia we will stop at the shops of local artisans at Spruce Forest Artisan Village which is comprised of cabins that have been moved to the site from area farms and homesteads. The oldest building, Markley House, dates back to 1775. Each building has a unique history. While at the village, see the Casselman River Bridge, constructed in 1813, it was the largest stone arch bridge in America. We will then check-in to the hotel in Elkins, WV, our lodging for the next two nights. Dinner will be at a local Mansion followed by a live performance by the Elk Ramblers at the Randolf Art Center. Seth Maynard on guitar and vocals, Galen Watts on electric bass and vocals and Paul Marganian on fiddle, guitar and vocals make up the Elk River Ramblers.

Day 2

This morning, after a continental breakfast, we will board the Cheat Mountain Salamander's climate controlled passenger cars for a 2 1/2 hour ride through the high mountain wilderness of West Virginia. A photo stop is made at the High Falls of the Cheat River. This is a one-way train that ends at the remote Cheat Bridge where the bus will transport us to the eastern side of Cheat Mountain and arrive in Durbin. A boxed lunch prepared by the chef from the Graceland Inn will be included. After lunch you will have time to shop for souvenirs at the Rail to Trail Store before boarding the Durbin Rocket. Built in 1910 this steam locomotive pulls an authentic 1920s era coach and vintage wooden caboose along the free-flowing Greenbrier River. Dinner and entertainment will be at the Gandy Dancer Theatre.

Day 3

After breakfast we will head to Philippi, WV to see the Philippi Covered Bridge, the site of the first land battle of the Civil War. Take a walk across this piece of U.S. history. Tour Adaland Mansion, this stately brick home is set against the rolling hills of Barbour County and was built in 1870. The 23-room, Greek Revival mansion house has been restored with great attention to authenticity and features homemade brick and walnut woodwork throughout. After the mansion tour we will enjoy an organ concert at the International Mother's Day Shrine in Grafton, WV. This afternoon we say farewell with many happy memories having been made on our mountain music and rails tour of West Virginia.
