Day 1

Welcome to Vacationland! Today we head north for Portland, Maine's largest city-by-the-sea. Check-in to the Clarion Hotel, one of Greater Portland's hotels. This full service hotel has an indoor pool, restaurant, and lounge. A buffet dinner will be included tonight at the hotel.

Day 2

After an included breakfast, we will meet our local guide for a tour of historic Portland, including a stop at Portland Head lighthouse - Maine's oldest and also the most photographed! Next we will take a private, guided tour of another nearby lighthouse that is not normally open to the public. This lighthouse is accessed via a granite jetty (those unable to climb stairs or manage the uneven terrain to the lighthouse will be offered an alternate activity). See how the lighthouse keepers lived on the Maine coast and enjoy the scenic view of Casco Bay when you walk out on the ledge at the top of this two story beacon. Enjoy lunch on your own in Freeport, home to the L.L. Bean flagship store and a variety of casual restaurants and cafés. Sit back and relax for an afternoon drive through the mid-coast Maine region, dotted with glimpses of quiet coves and bustling harbor villages. In the lobster capital of the world - Rockland - we'll visit the Sail, Power & Steam museum on Rockland harbor. At the sight of the Old Snow Shipyard, we'll see exhibits of rigging and sail making, lobster and dory fishing and shipbuilding. Learn about the local shipwrecks and see early steam engines, navigational equipment and ship-building tools. We will continue north to the Bar Harbor region and check-in to the beautiful Atlantic Oceanside Resort hotel overlooking scenic Frenchman's Bay. The hotel is located one mile from downtown and features guest rooms with water views and private balconies or patios, indoor and outdoor pools and Jacuzzi. Dinner is included at the resort this evening.

Day 3

Enjoy breakfast this morning at the resort before we set out to explore Bar Harbor for the day. First we'll take a scenic Bar Harbor nature cruise. Cruise on Frenchman's Bay, where you will search for eagles, porpoises, seals and other marine mammals and birds aboard this narrated sightseeing cruise. Pass by Egg Rock lighthouse and see the coastline views of Acadia National Park. Enjoy lunch on your own in Bar Harbor, with many casual restaurants to choose from in this harbor village. After lunch on your own in Bar Harbor, we'll visit one of Bar Harbor's most popular museums. The Abbe Museum highlights Maine's Native American history with beautiful beadwork, baskets and historical exhibits about Maine's three native tribes. For the afternoon we'll meet our local guide for a narrated tour of Acadia National Park. See the breathtaking beauty that has attracted the elite to this area for years. The views from the top of Cadillac Mountain are spectacular. You'll also see the carriage roads built by the Rockefellers, stop at Thunder Hole and the summer cottages built by the rich and famous summer visitors. Don your souvenir Maine lobster hat tonight and enjoy a traditional Maine lobster-bake dinner in a waterfront setting. You'll want to bring your appetite for this feast! Steak and vegetarian are the alternate menu options.

Day 4

After an included breakfast, we will head to Maine's pristine south coast region, famous for its stretches of sandy beaches and salt air breezes. Have lunch on your own in Kennebunkport's Dock Square with many restaurants, shops and art galleries to browse before we'll board an 88 passenger lobster boat and experience authentic lobster harvesting along the rocky coast of Kennebunkport, Maine. Next, take a ride into yesteryear and discover the heritage of America's Grand Trolley era at the Seashore Trolley Museum. Take a scenic ride through the Maine countryside on a restored streetcar and tour through the impressive exhibit barn with trolleys from the National Collection of American Streetcars where we will learn where they operated and how they were restored. Check-in to the Hampton Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine for the night, which is between Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. The hotel features a beautiful indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Again, don your souvenir Maine lobster hat at an authentic downeast lobster bake dinner. En route to dinner, stop for a photo of Maine's southernmost lighthouse. Then you'll feast on your choice of Maine boiled lobster, barbecued chicken, or vegetarian, plus chowder, cultivated mussels, corn on the cob, Maine potatoes and blueberry crumb cake. Sing-along entertainment is included.
