Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic

Lighthouses were built onshore or on the seabed to serve as an aid to maritime coastal navigation, guiding vessels to a destination. There are many lighthouse enthusiasts who photograph them and study their history. Come join this adventure and you too can discover the fascination of the traffic signs on the sea!

This tour highlights several lighthouse in the Mid-Atlantic region from Annapolis to Ocean City, Maryland to down to Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Day 1

This morning we depart on our Lighthouse Adventure with our first stop in Annapolis, Maryland. Here we will enjoy a cruise to view three lighthouses in the Chesapeake Bay. Narration will be given by a Lighthouse keeper as we view Sandy Point Shoal, Baltimore Harbor and Thomas Point Lighthouses. Our guide will entertain us with anecdotes and tales of famous keepers and enlighten us with the history of the three structures. A box lunch will be included while on the cruise. This afternoon we will travel to Ocean City, Maryland for a two-night stay on the boardwalk. Dinner will be included at an area restaurant this evening.

Day 2

This morning, after breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the Fenwick Island Lighthouse, which houses a third-order Fresnel lens that could be seen fifteen miles out to sea. Next, we will have a unique presentation at the Discoversea Shipwreck Museum, which houses thousands of artifacts that have been recovered, each with an interesting story. A short stop will be made at Sea Shell City prior to free time for lunch and strolling the quaint downtown shops in Berlin. We return to the hotel to relax and freshen up before an included dinner.

Day 3

Breakfast will be included at the hotel before departing for Chincoteague Island. On Chincoteague we will visit the Museum which tells a storied history of the Island. A driving tour of the island will be included as well as a visit to the Bateman Educational Center and the Assateague Lighthouse. The Assateague Lighthouse is listed on the Virginia Historic Register and remains an active navigational aid and is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. After lunch at a local seafood restaurant, we will depart for Virginia Beach. Upon arrival we will visit Cape Henry Lighthouse which is located in the Fort Story Military base near the "First Landing" site where the English settlers first set foot on their way to settle in Jamestown. The Cape Henry Lighthouse guided sea travelers to safety for more than 100 years. We will then travel to the heart of Virginia Beach boardwalk for our overnight accommodations. Dinner this evening will be included at an area restaurant. After dinner, feel free to stroll the boardwalk.

Day 4

This morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we will depart for home. With stops for rest and lunch, our arrival home is scheduled for early evening

Please be sure to verify your final seat number(s) with your driver at the time of boarding. Daily seat rotation is practiced on most multi-day tours. Seat rotation will be explained by your driver or tour escort.
