Day 1

On our way to Somerset County, we will stop at Hoss's Steak & Seafood in Bedford, PA for lunch on your own before meeting our local guide who will join us for the remainder of the day. We will pay our respects at the Flight 93 National Memorial including the Tower of Voices, Memorial Plaza, and Visitor Center. The exhibits in the Visitor Center bring back poignant memories as well as providing new insight into the events and the heroes of Flight 93. Phase 3 of the National Memorial, "The Tower of Voices," was dedicated in September of 2018. The 93-foot-tall tower housing 40 windchimes is now complete and provides harmonious sounds reminding us of the 40 heroes who came together and gave their lives to save this flight from reaching its intended target. (The windchimes are heard based on wind speed.) We will then visit the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel, which was dedicated on the first anniversary of 9/11. In the chapel you see many moving mementos donated by family members and others who wish to honor the heroes. Be sure to visit the garden area behind the chapel. We will then check-in to our hotel followed by an included dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2

After breakfast we will depart with a local guide to visit Quecreek Mine Rescue Site. It was here where nine miners were miraculously rescued from 240 feet beneath the earth in a farmer's field just outside of Somerset on July 28, 2002. Hear of the events from the time the accident occurred until the last miner was brought up. The rescue site has been developed into a beautiful garden and you will see the actual rescue capsule, the broken drill bit, and other artifacts from the Quecreek rescue and mining in general in the Educational Visitor Center. We will then depart for Brantview Farms Maple, an 8th generation maple farm, where you will enjoy a live demonstration and a wagon ride. An included lunch will complete our day of touring. Arrival home is scheduled for mid-evening.
