Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington DC have an almost unlimited amount of American history. Whether it's the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, or the battlefield at Gettysburg, this is some of the most historic and memorialized land in the country.

In addition to the many non-controversial monuments, there are many monuments that have been getting negative attention. You don't have to look hard to find a seemingly rampant sense of urgency to remove historic monuments in our country. What remains the hazy, however, is whether to hurry to tear down statues is a result of reasonable arguments or supercharged emotions.

We are primarily seeing this happen in relation to Confederate monuments. For those who support their removal, the principal argument for taking them down is that they celebrate the darkest part of our past and, subsequently, must endorse slavery and racism in general. Others simply see the monuments as rememberances of historic events and some of the people that helped form our country. Whatever the rationale, many citizens are quite concerned that recent efforts will eventually validate the removal of other important monuments.

Join Perkiomen Tours and WPHT host Rich Zeoli as we visit some of the many historical areas in Baltimore, Washington DC and Gettysburg to remind us of the significance of our country's historical monuments.
