Saturday, October 6 & Sunday, October 7

Sit back and relax as we travel southward to our lodging for the evening near Burlington, North Carolina.  Day two’s destination is the Callaway Gardens Resort in Pine Mountain, Georgia where we will be guests at the Lodge & Spa.  Founded in the 1930’s, the resort features 14,000 acres of woodlands, lakes, wildlife and flowers.  Highlights also include the John A. Sibley Horticultural Center and the Day Butterfly Center. This evening’s dinner will be included at the Inn.   CB, D 

Monday, October 8

Following a delicious breakfast we will have more time to explore the many delights of Callaway Gardens.  A step-on tour guide will board our coach for a very interesting and informative tour of the gardens.  Late this morning we must continue our journey south to our next overnight in Biloxi, Mississippi at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, for a two-night stay.   B, D 

Tuesday, October 9

This morning following breakfast, we will visit Beauvoir, the Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library. After lunch on your own, we will enjoy a Shrimp Boat excursion, which will expose you to the spectacular world of sea life! Later we will visit the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, featuring the ceramics of George E. Ohr as well as contemporary and historic exhibitions. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy at your leisure. B 

Wednesday, October 10

Today after breakfast we will check out and head west to NASA Stennis Space Center for a tour exploring Earth and Space through deepening levels of involvement. After lunch on your own, we depart for New Orleans. Upon arrival a local guide will introduce us to the highlights of New Orleans. This evening is free to enjoy the city at your leisure.  B

Thursday, October 11

Today we will visit the National WWII Museum. The Museum’s exhibits encompass the June 6, 1944 invasion of Normandy, the Home Front during WWII, and the D-Day invasion in the Pacific. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy at your leisure.

Friday, October 12

Plantation County is on our schedule for today! We will explore two of Louisiana’s most famous and historic plantation homes along the Great Mississippi River Road and learn about their stories, secrets, and occasionally…spirits. We will enjoy Cajun and Creole food, a thrilling swamp tour and create lasting memories. First we will tour Laura: A Creole Plantation including the plantation home, the 200 year old sugar plantation and a slave cabin. Lunch and a tour of Oak Alley Plantation are next. A quarter-mile canopy of giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, form an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home…a spectacular setting! Later we enjoy a unique journey back to the early days of Louisiana bayou and swamp explorations on a Swamp Tour. We return to New Orleans for our last evening in the city. L 

Saturday, October 13

Enroute to Birmingham, Alabama, the location of our lodging for this evening we will visit the Veterans Memorial Museum in Laurel followed by a visit to Meridian Mississippi, home to Sela Ward. In Meridian we will have lunch at Weidmann’s Restaurant and tour the newly restored Grand Opera House. L 

Sunday, October 14 & Monday, October 15

Traveling northward through Chattanooga and Knoxville will lead us to our lodging for the evening in Wytheville, Virginia.   B 

Tomorrow our New Orleans adventure will come to a close with our arrival home scheduled for early evening.  CB
