Saturday, September 29

Sit back and enjoy the spectacular foliage as we travel to New England. Today we will have a guided tour of the Mark Twain House. This unusual 19 room Victorian Gothic house was the author’s home where he wrote his greatest works, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. Our lodging this evening will be in Hartford, CT. 

Sunday, September 30

Following a continental breakfast, we depart for Sturbridge, MA to take a trip back to the 1830’s at Old Sturbridge Village. Here, we’ll walk through original homes, craft shops, meeting houses and a mill; all from the 18th and 19th centuries.  Lunch will be included at the Salem Cross Inn. This afternoon we will tour the Concord Museum. This museum has a renowned collection of Americana, including 1775 Revere Lantern, Thoreau’s Walden desk and Emerson’s study. Lodging this evening will be in Billerica, MA.  CB, L 

Monday, October 1

Today we will enjoy a tour of Boston with a local guide showing us all the points of interest in this historic city. You will enjoy free time for lunch and shopping in Quincy Market before we depart for Ogunquit, ME.  Our lodging this evening will be at The Hampton Inn in Wells, ME. Dinner this evening will be a lobster bake.  CB, D  

Tuesday, October 2

The beauty abounds as we travel to North Conway, NH.  We will hop on the Conway Scenic Lunch Train to enjoy the beautiful Mt. Washington Valley and surrounding White Mountains. This afternoon we will drive the Kancamagus Highway, a National Forest Scenic Byway that meanders through pristine wilderness.  Our lodging this evening will be at the Indian Head Resort.  Dinner and entertainment will be provided at the resort.  CB, L, D

Wednesday, October 3

The views will be spectacular today as we begin by traveling through one of New Hampshire’s most scenic mountain passes, Franconia Notch. Marvel as you watch the film of the Flume Gorge in the Gilman Visitor Center. Also, ride the aerial tram to the summit of Cannon Mountain. We will then enjoy a wonderful lunch and tour at the Mt. Washington Hotel. Later we will cross the border into Vermont where we’ll spend the night in Waterbury, VT.  B, L

Thursday, October 4

Today following continental breakfast we will visit the Morse Farm to learn about their 200 year-old maple sugar tradition. Our next stop is at Rock of Ages Granite Quarries where we will look down into the World’s largest working granite quarries and see master craftsmen create the finest granite products. Lunch will be on your own in downtown Barre. Then this afternoon we’ll tour Hope Cemetery, an “outdoor art museum”. See the craftsmanship of these granite sculpture headstones, carved by Italian artists who migrated to work the quarries. Our lodging this evening is in Brattleboro, VT.  CB, D 

Friday, October 5

This morning we will depart for Stockbridge, MA home to the Norman Rockwell Museum. Here we will enjoy the works of America’s favorite illustrator’s chronicle of the America everyone likes to remember.  Lunch will be enjoyed before we depart for home. Arrival home will be later this evening.  CB, L
