Friday, August 15
The morning departure will bring us into Erie, PA in time to check into our hotel. We’ll have time to freshen up before boarding the triple decker, paddle driven Victorian Princess for a 2 hour buffet Dinner Cruise in Presque Isle Bay. The open air third deck offers spectacular views! D
Saturday, August 16
After a continental buffet, we’ll go on a spectacular ride through Presque Isle State Park, a national natural landmark. You’ll see dunes, lagoons, monuments and plenty of water fowl. We’ll stop at the Presque Isle Lighthouse, built in 1872, this is the 2nd American lighthouse built on Lake Erie. Next, we’ll go to the Erie Maritime Museum followed by free time downtown for lunch on your own and time to take in the view of Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie from atop the Bicentennial Tower. We’ll view the Land Lighthouse, the 1st lighthouse on the Great Lakes, built in 1813 and reconstructed in 1867 before saying good-bye to Pennsylvania and traveling along New York’s Route 5, the Seaway Trail. We’ll stop at Barcelona Harbor to view the 1829 Barcelona Lighthouse, the first and only natural gas lit lighthouse in the world. We’ll travel along the “Trail” to the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse & Veterans Museum for a tour. After checking into the Clarion Hotel Dunkirk, overlooking Lake Erie, we’ll travel a short distance to the Merritt Estate Winery for a wine tasting and some munchies. Sunday, August 17
Today starts with a breakfast buffet at the hotel, followed by a tour of one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural wonders, the Isabelle R. Martin House at Graycliff, which is under renovation. Overlooking Lake Erie, enjoy spectacular vistas from the cantilevered balconies of the Martin’s summer home. We’ll view the next lighthouse from the Erie Basin Marina. This Buffalo Main Light was first lit in 1819. Free time for lunch on your own is followed by a walking tour of Old Fort Niagara, with a costumed guide and many benches along the way. See musket-firing demonstrations, Storehouse, Powder Magazine, Battery, “French” Castle and browse in the gift shop. A lighthouse tour of Old Fort Niagara Light is included. This afternoon we’ll check into the Holiday Inn by the Falls. Tonight we’ll have dinner on the upper level of the Red Coach Inn. With its wall to wall windows, you’ll have spectacular views of the rapids of the mighty Niagara! After dinner, we’ll enjoy the sounds of Broadway Dreamers. B, D
