Tuesday, July 5
What lies above and beneath them thar hills is a wonder to behold – from an exhibition coal mine, to cold war bunkers, to caves, to majestic mountains and a breathtaking gorge. Come and explore wild, wonderful West Virginia from its heights to its depths. After arriving in Beckley and checking into our lodging for the next three nights at the Country Inn & Suites, dinner will be included at Delightfully Yours Cafe. D
Wednesday, July 6
This morning, following breakfast, we will depart for Hawk’s Nest State Park. Here we will ride the aerial scenic tram to the bottom of the New River Gorge Canyon and climb aboard “Miss M Rocks”, a 21-foot covered Jetboat to conquer the currents of the New River. You’ll be able to see the New River Gorge Bridge, the world’s second longest single arch steel bridge. We will then stop to watch the canning process and sample salsa and chips at the Blue Smoke Salsa Factory. Lunch will be included at the historic White Horse B & B, followed by a tour of the historic Fayette Theatre. Then we’re off to the Canyon Rim Visitor’s Center near the New River Gorge Bridge where you will see a stunning view of the New River Gorge where a ranger will tell about the river, the bridge and more. Dinner this evening will be at the Tamarack followed by entertainment. CB,L,D
Thursday, July 7
Following breakfast we’ll get a realistic look at coal mining as it was at the turn of the century at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. Here, we’ll travel 1500 feet underground in authentic mining cars and tour an historic coal camp with veteran miners as guides. Following the tour, we’ll enjoy lunch at Food & Friends, featured on the Food Network’s “Best of” series in 2004. After lunch you’ll have a bit of free time in Lewisburg before the North House Tour and Tea. Then, we’ll take the legendary Greenbrier Bunker Tour. The bunker is underneath the 5-star Greenbrier Resort. The location of this facility remained a secret for more than three decades. Dinner will be at the General Lewis Inn followed by a performance at Theatre West Virginia. CB,L,D

After breakfast, we’ll depart West Virginia for home. Our arrival home will be later this evening. CB
