An early departure will bring us to the picturesque community of Wellsboro by midday. Home of the Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival, Wellsboro is also the gateway to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Known for its gas-lit streets, town green and Victorian mansions, Wellsboro is a perfect setting to honor our state flower, the Mountain Laurel. Our afternoon will be spent at the festival, which will include reserved seats for the Laurel Festival Parade, the Arts/Crafts and Collectibles Fair; plus the International Streets of Food. Before continuing on to our lodging for the evening in Mansfield, we will drive to the Grand Canyon for some spectacular panoramic views.
Sunday, June 19
This morning we will travel to Watkins Glen, New York, to hike down the famous gorge. Highlighted by rock formations and 18 waterfalls, the glen drops 400 feet in 2 miles. Our visit to the Gorge involves walking, steps and uneven surface conditions. There is a visitor center and gift shop available to visit for those who may be unable or uninterested in the walk/hike. A relaxing cruise on Seneca Lake, one of New York’s beautiful Finger Lakes, will complete our tour. Our return home will be by mid-evening. CB, L
