This morning we will travel north to Lincoln where we will get on the Kancamagus Scenic Highway for a 34-mile drive through the White Mountain National Forest. In North Conway Village we will have free time for browsing and lunch before continuing our journey through northern New Hampshire and into Maine’s lush mountainous interior. Our home for the next two evenings will be at the Inn in Rangeley, Maine where innkeepers go out of their way to insure everyone’s comfort and enjoyment. Tonight we’ll hear the performance of a local Maine storyteller. You’ll want to get to bed early tonight because of the early start we have planned in the morning. D

For those who are up for it (Participation not required) our day starts early (4:30am to 5:00am) when we’ll meet in the lobby for a quick cup of coffee and get started on today’s adventure, a Moose watch canoe trip. We drive to the Kennebago River where we’ll hop into our canoes and, along with our guides, head down the river to see the wildlife. It is likely that we’ll see moose, but we may also see blue heron, beaver, osprey, deer or red fox as well (warm clothing recommended). Later we’ll return to the Inn for breakfast followed by free time to take a nap or explore the village of Rangeley. Lunch will be picnic style at a very scenic spot in Rangeley Lake State Park, and afterwards we’ll join a local prospector who will show us how to pan for gold. Returning to the Inn (richer we hope!) the evening will consist of a barbecue dinner and entertainment. This evening we may go moosin’ just before dusk to see how many of these creatures we can spot along the roadside munching weeds. B, L, D
Thursday, June 25
Sadly we must leave Rangeley behind as we travel to our final evening in Portland. Enroute we will visit the Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, Maine where you will exclaim that history was never so much fun! Here we’ll learn the story of Maine’s most famous family, the Washburns, through a mixture of dramatic and humorous activities. An old fashioned country meal is included. Next we’ll enjoy a 90 minute scenic Lighthouse Cruise through the busy harbor and innermost islands of Casco Bay. Our evening in Portland will be free to enjoy at your leisure. B, L
