We depart Pennsburg this morning for our overnight lodging in Elyria, Ohio.
Tuesday, May 12
This morning we check out and continue our journey to Fremont, Indiana. Upon arrival we will visit Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve. Enjoy over 400 sacred acres of rolling Indiana Prairie Land, natural water ways, lakes, birds and home to approximately 200 bison. We will enjoy lunch at the Blue Gate Restaurant. We then will stop at the Menno-Hof, a Mennonite-Amish Visitors Center where multi-image presentations, historical environments and colorful displays will give us a fascinating look inside the unique world of the Mennonites and Amish. After we check into our hotel, we will enjoy dinner on our own. B, L
Wednesday, May 13
A busy day awaits us as our journey takes us to Shipshewana, home of Shipshewana Flea Market & Auction. Declared the Midwest’s most popular outdoor flea market, more than 1,000 vendor stands display the antiques, animals and crops of the area. Lunch will be on your own. After lunch we will take an in-depth look at the Amish lifestyle on a guided back roads tour through actual Amish communities. Following our tour, we will enjoy dinner at Yoder’s Family Farm. CB, D
Thursday, May 14
Following breakfast at the hotel we will spend the day at Amish Acres in Nappanee, Indiana. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Amish Acres echoes the simple life of Amish society through a working farm & homestead that has housed three generations of related Amish families. While here we will enjoy a short documentary film, take a tour of the house and themed outbuildings and a wagon ride. We then will enjoy lunch at the Restaurant Barn. This family style meal has been served to more than 1,000,000 people who have visited Amish Acres in the past two decades. Following lunch our visit to Amish Acres will end with a theater presentation. CB, L
Friday, May 15
This morning we will enjoy a continental breakfast before we visit the National New York Central Railroad Museum. The museum recaptures the days when locomotives were symbols of progress. The Museum was founded in 1987 and is an ever growing preserver of national railroad heritage. Lunch will be included at Das Dutchmen Essenhaus and you will have free time in the shops before departing for our lodging in Elyria, Ohio. CB, L
Saturday, May 16
As our journey to Indiana Amish Country concludes we will have time to reflect on the many things we have experienced while Ohio and Pennsylvania scenery leads us home. B
