Memphis is a city that first gained its international reputation as the Home of the Blues. Then it grabbed the spotlight as the birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll. And through it all, it’s been the heart of Gospel & Soul. People flock to Memphis from all over the world to explore this 21st Century City. Named after Memphis, Egypt, and sitting on the ancient Mississippi, Memphis offers a vast selection of experiences for all ages. Our first nights lodging will be in Abingdon, Virginia.
Tuesday, May 19
After a continental breakfast at our hotel we continue on our southern journey stopping in Nashville, Tennessee for an afternoon tour of the world famous Opryland Hotel plus numerous downtown Nashville highlights. After checking into our hotel, we will enjoy dinner and entertainment at Nashville Nightlife! CB, D
Wednesday, May 20
This morning after a continental breakfast we will continue to Memphis, Tennessee. After free time for lunch on Beale Street we will be joined by a local step-on guide who will show us all the highlights of the city including the downtown area, Sun Studio and of course, the quartet of ducks which march twice daily to and from the lobby fountain at the dignified Memphis landmark, the Peabody Hotel. This evening, after checking into our hotel, we will enjoy Southern hospitality, down home cookin’ and down home blues at King’s Palace Cafe on Beale Street! B, D
Thursday, May 21
A full breakfast will get us off on the right foot today. We will then enjoy more Memphis touring including Mud Island River Park. Built on a 52 acre island, the park presents many aspects of the Mississippi, including its history and people. The remainder of today will be free to enjoy at your leisure. Feel free to shop, stroll downtown or visit a museum, but don’t venture off to Graceland...that’s on our itinerary for tomorrow! B
Friday, May 22
The majority of today will be spent at Graceland, the mansion of the late “King of Rock & Roll!” Included in our tour will be portions of the mansion decorated as they were during Elvis’ lifetime, the trophy room, gardens, a film tracing Elvis’ career, Elvis’ private airplanes, car collection and the Sincerely Elvis Museum. After an included lunch we will enjoy a sightseeing cruise on the Mississippi River aboard the Memphis Queen Line. This evening’s dinner will be enjoyed at Butcher Shop Steakhouse. B,L,D
Saturday, May 23 & Sunday, May 24
This morning after breakfast we will depart for home. Stops for rest and lunch will be made along the way. Our evening’s lodging will be in Abingdon, VA. B Tomorrow we will continue our homeward journey with arrival by early evening. CB
